Mid taper with tied-back locs
Long mature pencil-thick locs tied into a high ponytail falling behind crown, visible individual loc roots and natural varied thickness, mid localized temple taper with short retained side hair. Longer or tied hair partly obscures the neckline; agree the rear finish separately with your barber. Compare the front, both side references and rear view to discuss the outline with your barber.
What to ask your barber
I would like a mid taper at the temples and nape, retaining the fuller hair above it. Keep the long locs and enough length for a loose tied-back arrangement. Before cutting, let’s agree whether the shortest edges show skin or visible hair, and choose a finish I can maintain at home.
Build a fuller barber brief ↗How to style this look
- Handle the existing locs gently and follow the cleansing routine appropriate to their stage.
- Allow the hair to dry thoroughly, then arrange the lengths with your fingers instead of pulling at the roots.
- For tied styles, use a soft band and comfortable tension. Discuss the loc work separately from the short perimeter.
