Mid taper with a compact straight topknot
Long straight hair pulled into a compact single topknot at crown with a visible wrapped tie, natural flyaway strands and short retained side hair, localized mid temple taper. Longer or tied hair partly obscures the neckline; agree the rear finish separately with your barber. Compare the front, both side references and rear view to discuss the outline with your barber.
What to ask your barber
I would like a mid taper at the temples and nape, retaining the fuller hair above it. Keep enough straight length for the compact crown knot. Before cutting, let’s agree whether the shortest edges show skin or visible hair, and choose a finish I can maintain at home.
Build a fuller barber brief ↗How to style this look
- Detangle the retained length gently and decide where you want the gathered shape to sit.
- Gather it with a soft band, keeping the sides and roots comfortable rather than pulling them very tight.
- Arrange the loose ends or curls with your fingers; the short perimeter needs little styling product.
